Delete your account
Last updated: 2026-10-23
This page is for deleting a Hello Budget account — the app called hello-budget on Google
Play, the Telegram bot @hello_budget_bot and the web app are the same
account. It is reachable without installing anything, because Google Play requires that and
because somebody who has already uninstalled the app should still be able to ask.
There are two different things you may want, and the second one keeps the account:
- delete the account, with everything in it;
- delete your data and keep the account.
The fastest way: in the app
Tap your avatar at the top → Profile → Account → Delete account…
A sheet says what will happen and asks you to confirm with Delete the account. Then it is done, at once: the app signs out, and the account no longer exists. The app is signed in already, so nothing has to be proved a second time.
If you only ever used the bot, you can do the same by signing in to the Android app with Telegram: it is the same account.
Without the app
Write to apps@gpm.name from the address you sign in with, and say you want the account deleted. If you only use Telegram, say so and give your Telegram username: the confirmation will come through the bot.
The address, or the bot, is the check. Deletion is irreversible, so a request that cannot be tied to the account it names will get a reply asking for that proof rather than being carried out. If you no longer have access to the address, say so and we will work out what else can prove it.
Expect it to be done within 30 days, and normally within a few days.
What is deleted
- Everything you wrote down: expenses, income, budgets, subscriptions, instalments, investments and their alerts, and your categories.
- Your profile: your email address, the Google identifier and name if you signed in with Google, your Telegram id, name and username, your language and your settings.
- Every sign-in: the sessions of every browser and phone, the pending sign-in codes, and the push tokens your phones registered for notifications.
- Your notices, and your bug reports’ and ideas’ link to you.
- The record of your Pro payments kept on the Hello Budget server: the Telegram payment identifiers and the Google Play purchase tokens.
- Your shared accounts are left properly rather than cut away. One you own with other members passes to the member who joined earliest; one where you are the only member is deleted with what is in it; one you only belong to, you leave.
What is kept, and why
What was spent in a shared account that still has members stays in it. Those expenses are the other members’ record of what was spent too, and their balances would stop adding up without them.
An administrator’s log of actions keeps the numeric id an action was about, and nothing that identifies you.
Payment records stay for as long as the law requires. A subscription bought through Google Play is Google’s record as much as ours, and the licence service that checks Google Play subscriptions keeps the purchase it checked; Telegram keeps its own record of a payment in Stars. Ask at the address above to have the licence service’s record removed as far as the law allows.
Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription. A Google Play subscription is cancelled in Google Play (Play Store → your profile → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions), and a subscription paid in Stars in Telegram’s settings. Cancel it first, or it will keep renewing.
Backups of the server exist for disaster recovery and are retained for a limited period. Data deleted from the live database is not restored from them.
If you write to the bot again after deleting the account, it starts a new, empty one.
Delete your data and keep the account
If you want what you wrote down gone but the account kept — to start over, say — there is no need to ask anybody:
- In the Android app: avatar → Profile → Data and help → Delete all data…, then Delete everything.
- In the bot: settings → delete data, then yes, delete everything.
Your expenses, income, budgets, subscriptions, investments and categories are deleted for good, immediately. What belongs to a shared account is not touched, because it is the other members’ too. Your profile, your sign-ins and your Pro subscription stay, so Hello Budget works as before, empty.
Before either, Export (Profile → Data and help in the app, settings → export in the bot) hands you your data as CSV files.
Everything else about what Hello Budget holds is in the Privacy Policy.
