Hello Budget in Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants
Last updated: 2026-10-29
Hello Budget can be connected to an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT. Once it is, you can ask the assistant about your money in your own words (“how much did I spend on groceries in September?”) or tell it what to write down (“I paid 42 € for dinner, half with Anna”), and it does it in your Hello Budget account.
It works with any assistant that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in. There is one address for all of them:
https://hello-budget-app.gpm.name/mcp
What you need
- Hello Budget Pro. A free account cannot connect an assistant. If Pro lapses, the assistant is refused until it is renewed; the connection itself stays.
- An assistant that lets you add a custom connector (also called a custom MCP server). Which plans of which assistant allow it is up to its maker.
Connecting
The steps are the same everywhere: add the address above as a connector in the assistant, then sign in when it asks.
Signing in. The assistant opens Hello Budget’s consent page in your browser. Sign in to the web app if you are not already, check the name of the assistant, and choose Allow. There is also an option to make the connection read only. Nothing is shared with the assistant until you allow it.
Claude
In claude.ai and the Claude desktop app, open Customize → Connectors, choose Add, then Add custom connector, enter a name and the address, and continue. On a Team or Enterprise plan an owner of the organisation adds the connector first, and each member then connects it.
In Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http hello-budget https://hello-budget-app.gpm.name/mcp
Then start Claude Code, run /mcp, select hello-budget and follow the sign-in in the browser.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT takes custom connectors in its settings, under connectors or apps; for a connector that is not in its directory it asks you to turn on developer mode first. Whether you can, and whether a connector may write as well as read, depends on your ChatGPT plan and on your workspace’s settings, and OpenAI changes both. Add the address above as the server URL, choose OAuth as the authentication, and sign in when asked. OpenAI’s help article “Developer mode and full MCP connectors in ChatGPT” has the current steps.
Other assistants
Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI and other clients that support remote MCP servers with OAuth take the same address, as a server of type “HTTP” or “streamable HTTP”. They find the sign-in on their own.
Read only, or read and write
On the consent page you choose what the assistant may do.
- Read and write (the default): it can read everything and also add, change and delete.
- Read only: it can read and nothing else. A request to write is refused.
You can change your mind: connect again and choose the other one. The new choice replaces the old.
What the assistant can do
Read everything the app shows: the month’s overview, expenses, income, categories, budgets, subscriptions, instalments, shared accounts with their members and balances, repayments, charts, investments and the basics of your profile.
Write, unless the connection is read only: add, change and delete the same things the app can, including on shared accounts. The other members of a shared account are notified exactly as when it is done from the app.
Tools that delete or overwrite something are marked as such. Assistants that honour that mark ask you before running them; whether and how is up to the assistant.
What it cannot do
- Sign in or out, delete your account or use Delete all data.
- Buy Pro, or anything to do with payments.
- Manage your devices.
- Import or export files.
- Send bug reports or use the ideas board.
- Anything an administrator can do.
Shared accounts
An assistant connected by one member reads the shared account as that member does. That includes what the other members wrote and their names. When it writes there, the other members get the usual notices. Connect an assistant only if you are comfortable with that; the privacy policy says the same.
It acts as you
The assistant uses your account with the permission you gave it. It can misunderstand a request, pick the wrong category or the wrong day, or change something you did not mean. Check what it writes, and use read only if you want it to look and not touch.
Disconnecting
Open Settings → Connected assistants, in the bot, the web app, the Mini App or the Android app, and disconnect the assistant. It stops working at once. It may still show the connector in its own list; remove it there too.
Delete all data and deleting the account remove every connection.
What happens to your data
What the assistant reads leaves Hello Budget and is then held by the assistant’s maker under their own terms and privacy policy. What Hello Budget keeps about a connection, and for how long, is in the privacy policy. The conditions of use are in the terms.
